We're fascinated by the lives of celebrities, but when they pass on tragically, we can also be drawn to the way they died. In some cases, stars can become even more famous than ever for the mysterious circumstances under which they died. As a hat tip to this week's

premiere of the new History Channel series "Decoded," which has investigators looking into the untold histories of institutions such as the White House, the Statue of Liberty and more, we thought we'd take a look at stars whose untimely ends fascinate mystery buffs and conspiracy nuts alike.

Forty-seven years ago today, the nation mourned the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. (Read more about his life and see the iconic photo captured at his funeral. Watch some of Kennedy's speeches.) We take a look at other world leaders who were assassinated or survived attempts made in the name of a nation, a religion or a cause.

After years of speculation, the official engagement of Prince William and longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton has finally been announced. The ring (a sapphire surrounded by diamonds) also belonged to his mother, Diana. The wedding is expected to take place in the spring or summer of next year. In honor of the good news, we're looking back at other memorable royal weddings.

The Nobel Foundation has given out this many prizes since 1901. A record number of names were submitted for the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize. Each winner receives a diploma, a medal (pictures) and a pretty big cash award. The last prize was added in 1968. In honor of the prizes that will be handed out this week, (which one will be awarded at a later date?) we take a look at the award's namesake and some memorable winners.

There is a saying that only one out of every 10 people is good-looking.  Next time you’re in a crowded place, take a gander. You’ll see that it’s mostly true (unless you’re in a room full of swimsuit models – in that case, go you!). So, when narrowing down the top 10 hottest first ladies (and mistresses), I did a little math. There have been 44 presidential wives. If the saying holds true, that means only 4.5 are aesthetically pleasing. Ouch. No wonder there are so many mistresses. The ironic thing about the mistresses, though? John Kennedy had the most, but he had the hottest wife. Go figure.

It isn’t often that a building stuns – literally. However, this is the case

April 30th, was the 35th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon and the end of the Vietnam War, and last Tuesday, May 4th, was the 40th anniversary of the shooting of protesting students at Kent State University. The Vietnam War and America's involvement in it affected the lives of millions for well over a decade, exacting a massive human cost with millions of deaths and countless injuries - both physical and mental - that plague many of those involved to this day. United States military involvement and troop strength grew rapidly after 1964 - at its highest level in 1968, with over 500,000 troops on the ground. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. now bears the engraved names of 58,267 of those troops. It's nearly impossible to encapsulate an event of such scale in a handful of photographs, but here, 35 years after the end of the conflict.
